In the 13th century, many parts of the world were shocked by the attacks of an unbeatable rising empire. The sudden and unexpected methods used by this new power left countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe helpless against invasion. The Mongol army, led by Genghis Kahn and his sons, was horrifying for the people of the time. Today, this empire which was once the strongest in history is no longer recognized as a dominant force. Historians believe one reason the strength of the Mongolian empire did not endure is because they did not have a strong culture that would penetrate the souls and lives of those they sought to overtake.
During the times when Christianity was powerful, church was a place where people would go for cultural and spiritual fulfillment; to share the beauty of art and music of the highest quality. As Martin Luther said, music is the second most important tool next to God’s word for our Christian life. Today we are entrusted to keep our musical activities strong to reach people, lead the culture of our society, enrich our lives, and praise God.
Our church will soon complete the last step in our effort to refurbish our pipe organ and renovate our sanctuary. When you attend church you will hear the melodious results of an additional rank of pipes (32-feet bourdon), a new stop (céleste), more organist-friendly functions, and tiles on the floor of the chancel area for better acoustics. First Presbyterian Church of Mount Clemens will continue to be strengthened through our musical offerings. God loves us and loves when we praise Him with our best efforts, and He deserves it! Let us continue praising God with our hearts and minds.
Thanks Be to God!
Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us. - Martin Luther
