Newsletter for Chidren at Central
Dear Central Families with Children,
I started music time with little children on Sunday, January 13th ( from 11:30 a.m. to noon) and it will continue for most Sundays from now on. For the 3rd to 5th grade group of children (456er Stargazers), Sunday, Feb 3rd is the first day to have fun with me from 11:00 to 11:25 a.m. after service.
My plan for each different age group of children will be slightly different. For the younger group of children, music time with me is more like having fun with very basic musical concepts. All aspects of our routine life can be musical. Breathing, yawning, walking, dancing... all things can be used for good music making. We will enjoy games and noise making while learning very basic musical concepts, and they may not even notice that they are learning. During this time, they will learn many short pieces of music and a few of the songs will be used for presentation during services.
The older group of children will have more typical music classes, such as learning basic music reading skills and playing various instruments, including chimes, bells, and some percussion instruments. This group will be a backbone group for the younger musicians when they present music during services together.
Both groups of children will sing a song called "Lamb of God" with two handbell ringers and a flute player on Sunday, March 24 during the 9:30 a.m. service. To prepare for this Sunday, the two groups of children will get together to work on the piece on Sunday, March 17 from 11:30 a.m. to noon in the choir room.
They will also work together for Palm Sunday, April 14 to process with other adults at the beginning of the service. For that, children will be called by 9:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall, and I will join them at 9:10 a.m. to have them prepare to move into the Sanctuary. I may need a few volunteers to assist with these activities.
I am making email connections with all musical groups at Central, including the families with children, and will be in touch as our plans for the spring become clearer. These early musical activities will have them ready to be dedicated Christians in praising God with the wonderful gift of music, throughout their whole lives.
May God's blessings be with all our children and their families.
Your Director of Music Ministries,
Taemin Han
